AbuQadim Haqq, aka The Ancient, is an African-American visual artist famous for providing artwork to Detroit’s world-renowned techno producers, appearing on classic records by labels such as Metroplex, Transmat, Underground Resistance, and Planet E Communications. Beyond visuals, he has also crafted narratives for UR and Drexciya, breathing life into mythic landscapes and contributing to Afrofuturist storytelling.

Central to Haqq’s philosophy is the exploration of Black exodus technology, reimagining techno as a force for collective liberation. His The Book of Drexciya graphic novels delve into the titular underwater universe and have found their place in the esteemed British Library in London. Through evocative storytelling and visually-captivating illustrations, Haqq explores themes of identity, culture, and empowerment, offering audiences a glimpse into imagined futures where African diasporic influences shape worlds of boundless possibility. With each new creation, he continues to push the boundaries of science fiction, inviting readers to embark on journeys that transcend time and space, while celebrating the vibrant legacy of Afrofuturism.
