KMRU, a.k.a. Joseph Kamaru, is a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based audio artist for whom sound is a sensorial medium through which social, material, and conceptual interpretations are manifested. Carrying with him a repository of listening experiences from the Kenyan city and beyond, his expansive sonic practices bring an awareness of surroundings through creative compositions, installation, and performance. 

Kamaru has earned international acclaim for his performances at the Barbican, Berlin Atonal, Présences électronique, and releases on Editions Mego, Subtext, and Seil Records. In carving out a serious and definitive space on the list of essential authors in ambient experimental music, he is one of the most prolific and innovative artists in his field.
