LA Timpa, a.k.a. Christopher Soetan, is a Lagos-born, Toronto-raised, and London-based musician making noisy, deconstructed pop with a dizzying, potent, and ethereal quality. Delicate atmospherics prop murmured vocals that are woven through hesitant melodies, as the artist unravels themes of exile and return, destruction and creation that are deeply rooted in the inner–most feelings of love and regret, courage and fear.
Soetan has released a number of self-released albums and EPs since starting the project in 2015, including two LPs via London’s o___O? label in 2019 and 2022, Modern Antics in a Deserted Place on Halcyon Veil in 2020, and Time of Marcker under his own Vulgarteen imprint in 2024. His roots in DJing are showcased in various live mixes and radio broadcasts on or at NTS, RINSE FM, The Lot Radio, and Ormside Projects. Collaborations include those with the likes of Tricky, Klein, and Space Afrika, as well as various video and animation works through his own project with Kathryn Tompkins. Soundtracks include those for fashion brands Y-3, Burberry, and Marine Serre’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection film, which won the award for Best Music at Athens Fashion Film Festival in 2023.
