Lester St. Louis is a New York-born-and-based composer, cellist, and curator whose artistic work crosses disciplinary boundaries. Developing formats in which improvisation is articulated as a basic prerequisite and mode of creative sociality, his work is particularly focused on performance, installation, curation, artistic research and recording; and rooted in ecstatic sound worlds, interaction and flow.
St. Louis has performed internationally throughout Europe, the US, Canada, China, and South America, performing, recording, and producing with artists such Moor Mother, Rob Mazurek, Pheeroan Aklaff, Miho Hatori, Yo La Tengo, Yaeji, Isabel Crespo Pardo, Irreversible Entanglements, The International Contemporary Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound and many more. Commissions and collaborations include Jennifer Koh, String Noise and Ghost Ensemble, Torkwase Dyson, Fields Harrington, Terrence Nance, William Pope, and others.
