Reba Maybury is an artist, writer and dominatrix sometimes working under the name Mistress Rebecca. Her work explores the tension between her perceived strength as an object of fantasy and how, through the dynamics of sex work, she turns this power into something tangible. Much of Maybury’s art practice is physically created by her submissives through her direction as a way to negotiate the complexities of labour and agency under sex work, attempting to empower her further than men’s desires, leaving her with more than just a payment from them. Since 2015, Maybury has taught a program in subversive and critical thinking at Central Saint Martins, London. She published her first novella Dining with Humpty Dumpty in 2017. Recent exhibitions include those at Museum of Contemporary Art MACRO, Rome, Holstebro’s HFKD, Luma Westbau in Zurich, and Arcadia Missa, London.
