Space Afrika is a dub techno duo made up of Joshua Inyang and Joshua Reid who make slow-stepping, spacious urban dubscapes. The Manchester and Berlin-based producers harness ambient, Detroit techno and shades of early 90s Sheffield with a fresh and open approach to composition. The long-time friends and collaborators are heavily inspired by the industrial architecture of Northwest England and notions of travel, where their analogue-leaning sonic framework evokes images of rust and disintegrating concrete, and sensations of movement and redemption. Closely associated with Brighton and London labels Where to Now? and On-U Sound, their most recent mixtape hybtwibt?—released independently in June this year—seizes on the violent tremors of a world in transition and turmoil.
