The Mycological Twist is a project by Eloïse Bonneviot and Anne de Boer operating both as a fixed mushroom garden, and a nomadic project that infects and spreads alike mycelium. Projects initiated by the Berlin-based duo can be seen as a place to investigate the cycle of deterioration and regeneration happening in zones of Dark Ecology. Coined by Paul Stamets, the Mycological Twist looks at its capacity of inserting itself as a permacultural extension of an exhibition space. The underlying structure of the program follows patterns and behaviors that are reflected in the processes of the garden, and follows moments of inoculation, growth and harvest as key elements for events to happen.
Founded in 2014 as an extension of South London gallery Jupiter Woods’ garden, the research project has materialized in a program of commissions, lectures, performances and works, including MycoTV with Mostyn, Llandudno; Bergen Assembly, Bergen; Ghost Camp 3 with Chaos Magic in Nottingham; Human-Free Earth at U-jazdowski, Warsaw; The Artist Studio 2.0 roundtable at Royal Academy, London, and more.
