x/o (aka Veron Xio) is an interdisciplinary producer, performer, visual artist and DJ interested in disrupting binaries and transgressing codes of identity. Using loose narratives, contrasting sonics and butterfly evolution allegories, they create cathartic soundtracks that are both ethereal and aggressive.
In 2017, Xio’s conceptual soundtrack Cocoon Egg was released on Quantum Natives. With themes of healing and transcendence over adversity, the album was described by The Wire as having “a complex, compelling affect hardly heard in digital music.” Since then, they have released singles and remixes with forward-thinking labels such as Eternal Dragonz, PTP, and Objects Limited, while preparing for a sequel. Xio is also a founding member, co-curator and resident DJ of Vancouver’s s.M.i.L.e. collective, and has presented work and performed live audiovisual sets internationally across Asia, Europe, and North America, including a recent collaboration with Australian artist Jonathan Zawada at Vivid Sydney 2018.
