caner taker: KIRKPINAR

As part of 3hd 2025: Nausea

Something as fundamental as meaning-making can abruptly fall apart when faced with the raw facts of existence. Everyday objects and experiences lose their familiar significance, becoming arbitrary things without inherent purpose. This triggers the queasy realization of total freedom and the terrifying responsibility that accompanies making sense through choice and action. 3hd’s “Nausea” performance event at Haus der Visionäre channels this Sartrean confrontation with the absurdity and contingency of being, transforming existential crisis into collaborative reconstruction.

With the performance KIRKPINAR, artist and choreographer caner teker presents traditional oil wrestling (Turkish: Yağlı Güreş) as a space imbued with power, where history, masculinity, intimacy and vulnerability meet. By introducing a new form of Eros into the formal structure of this traditional martial art, Kirkpinar shifts the conventional perception of Yağlı Güreş as an aggressive practice through the radical potentials of care and rituality.
