Bunny Michael is a femme-presenting, non-binary rapper, actor, author and visual artist best known for their “Higher Self” meme project. Growing up in Dallas, Texas, and of Mexican and Samoan descent, New York-based Michael had been making music since the mid-2000s before reaching a larger audience by publishing their memes on Instagram in 2016, then self-publishing a book, Me and My HigherSelf, the following year. Michael’s work has been featured in The New York Times, HuffPost and Dazed & Confused, among others, while co-creating, writing and starring in web series What Would HigherSelf Do? and hosting Vice’s Broadly Hotline. Bunny has toured their music with Sweden’s Fever Ray and released a single, ‘Wanna Be Your Wifey”, in April this year.
