Steven Harwick is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist working with photography, video, installation, sculpture, and collage. Graduating with a BFA in Photography from New York’s Pratt Institute, his main focus is on his self-published zine, Bound Leather, which started as a means to explore and document contemporary leather and BDSM communities through a photographic lens. This practice leans on cultural history and traditional fetish imagery, while simultaneously subverting those standards by showcasing a more inclusive and diverse demographic than the long-established canon. Even Harwick’s work falling outside of this particular project aims to highlight notions of identity, obsession, subversion and perversion.
