Nazar makes his own interpretation of an Angolan sound and style he calls ‘rough kuduro’. The producer released EP, ‘Enclave’, in 2018, taking the typically uptempo and energetic style informed by techno, house and soca, and ‘weaponizing’ it to probe the depths of the civil war in Angola. This year’s follow-up album Guerrilla uses this same approach to examine Nazar’s family heritage and collective past, through a private memory and collected history by documenting his own experience of war and its aftermath via impressionistic, though direct atmospheres and dramatic themes.
